Performance lecture
Following a screening of Shen Xin’s "Warm Spell," which opened up questions on tourism’s impact on local ecologies on a Southern Thai island, Ko Yao Noi, Isa’s performance lecture turned the focus to her community and family on another island altered by tourism, Koh Phangan.
“the work stages a necessary and uneasy attempt at translation -- accounting for her artistic practice to those whose lived realities sit outside the institutional and linguistic frameworks of contemporary art. Performed in Southern Thai dialect with English subtitles, the lecture traverses questions of art, climate change, and more-than-human agencies, articulating the frictions and possibilities that emerge when worlds apart are brought into proximity.”
This lecture was first presented as part of "WORKWORKWORK," a screening and talk series that accompanied Stephanie Comilang's exhibition "Search for Life I," curated by Rosalia Namsai Engchuan at Bangkok Kunsthalle.
